Don’t know what I was going to say was dull – because something interrupted and I’ve been in a mad whirl ever since until today. Friday, I went to see Grant off, gave leis and Aloha kisses to
the Thompson family, Cat Hicks family, Lt. & Mrs. Daly Iggie and Worley and Mandy. It was so sad to see them all leaving and still sadder to think I’d be sailing out myself in another five weeks. I left Haaland & Babe after sailing, met Max & Bob Hand – we
had lunch at the Waikiki Tavern terrace then I grabbed an overnight bag & we went out to Sch. For dinner & movies. I spent the night at Elmores – took her a lovely gardenia corsage. The next day I went to the PX with Mrs. E. then met Max for lunch & we came
into DeRussy. That night I went to the movies then dancing with Geo. Cummins – he wanted me to go back to 8th FA camp at Waianae for the fishing party – breakfast at 3:00 AM then deep sea fishing – but I reigned in favor of a morning rest.
Last night Bill Hoffman called up & we played bridge here with Haaland & Ann Moore – my bridge game is progressing nicely, too.
I’m absolutely broken hearted about what is happening next Sat. night – Ray invited me on this dinner party at Ft. Kam to go with Dixie – and I had made a date last Friday with Max for dinner
at DeRussy that night entertaining his Major command. I was going to call Max & break the date right away but Uncle Ed said “no” – but told me next time to just put Max off & not make any more dates so far in advance if I might have something better coming
up. So I will have a drab Sat. night when it could have been so exciting. No more 10 day advance dates with Max is the moral of this experience.
Randy has invited me to go on a picnic Wed.. It’s an island holiday for King Kamehameha – big parade, stuff in his honor.
Last Sat. another major tragedy occurred when Beth Herman invited me to go to an “old clothes” hop at Ft. Ruger with her cousin (a bachelor, banker, just in from China) and I had to refuse because
of the engagement with “George.”
Yesterday Uncle Ed – out of the clear sky – said he thought I ought to go to school in Colorado next year at some university and take a secretarial course – not just stenographic, but a
real business course. He told me to go to the library, get all the information available on Colo. Schools & bring it home. Aunt Suan said she thought school wasn’t a good idea at all – and should be where I’d meet men who are the ones I might marry right
away, and if that place be here, then I should stay here. So – what to do?
More excitement here over the great bearded British Navy men off a British ship which has been torpedoed – now in Pearl harbor. Everything – food, housing, traffic is at a stopping point here,
and evacuation is expected any day.
I certainly enjoyed your last letter with all the tidbits of news and suddenly I’m writing clipper all the information about sailing, money, etc., tomorrow.
You’ve no idea how very much I’m wearing and enjoying the lovely short suit you sent. It looks so cute with my blue pumps & blue necklace Aunt Minnie gave me for graduation.
We’re playing bridge at DeRussy this afternoon & I have some pressing to do so must get to it. Had a good hula lesson today – learned another dance “Holoholo Kaa.”
