Honolulu, Friday, March 7, 1941 Friday, March 7 Dear Mother and Daddy, Isn’t this “spiffy” airmail paper? I just got it in the mail, with a precious birthday greeting card, “with love from Cousin Max.” So many nice things have happened in the last three days that I’ve practically had a triple birthday. Wednesday night when dessert was brought in – what a surprise! A lovely cake with what looked like hundreds of candles on it – brought in for me to “blow” and cut. “Happy Birthday Cecilia” on in icing, & roses & stuff. And delicious fresh strawberries. (By the way, I got the dime out of the cake – encouraging, isn’t it?) Then Worley called & came by – we went down to Trader Vic’s to meet two other couples and decide where to go. So after being treated and teased for an hour or two, we left to get a cheeseburger & came home – I had a little fever & didn’t feel like staying out so we left the others celebrating for me. Then last night Bob & I started to the Royal – had a hard time finding a parking place — & he had to go to town to the Young to cash a check – so when we finally got to the Young at 9:15 we were both so famished that we cast two quick votes to eat on the Young roof and give the Royal a rain check – so we had a very good turkey dinner, followed up by several pots of coffee, trying to get warmed up. Tropical roof gardens are fine in mild warm weather – but with a cold Kona gale, they’re not very cozy. – Had an unusually good hula dancer – is a ”betrained” Hawaiian garment – and Giggie Royce (the orchestra leader) led out beautifully on The Blue Danube Waltz – and I “sho” did get quick stage fright when the spotlight turned on us, as we danced to it. I was rather exhausted after the last two day’s excitement – so we left before the 2:30 aloha. Had to stop once in the downtown traffic to get out & shake off a cockroach, mouse size, that was getting too familiar inside the car. Don’t know that I’ll be seeing Bob around in the near future – I got terribly irritated last night at him & preceded to tell him so –. No usual Sunday night date & he hasn’t called today, so guess he’s leaving me alone to enjoy my irritation. A paper with time and date Description automatically generated with medium confidence
