RPD JOINS FACEBOOK Can social media help fight crime? RPD thinks so. Facebook users can now sign up for news, rewards, crime stats, discussions, updates, articles, tips and alerts from the Richmond Police Department by “liking” the RPD page online. To find the link visit the search engine of Facebook, enter “The Richmond Police Department”. The Crime Prevention Unit’s goal is to get 1,000 likes by mid-March through word of mouth and referrals.
If you’re not a Facebook user, you can still get anonymous crime alerts and tips from RPD through NIXLE, an information and alert sharing system designed specifically for public safety agencies. You can connect to NIXLE by visiting www.nixle.com, and signing up for alerts via e-mail and text in the Richmond area. Once signed in, subscribe to the “Richmond Police Department Crime Prevention Program” to begin alerts.
