Join Our Scholar Celebration on May 28th – Updates from Richmond Promise

Dear Friend,

Spring is here, and along with it comes one of the most exciting times of the year for Richmond Promise. I’m proud to share the following updates from our staff, and I remain grateful for your continued support and interest in our work.

Mark Your Calendar – 2025 Scholar Celebration

I’m excited to announce that Richmond Promise is hosting its 10th annual Scholar Celebration on Wednesday, May 28th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Richmond Art Center.

Our largest annual event, the Scholar Celebration recognizes our newest class of Scholars and celebrates them in front of their families, friends, and community members as they take the next step in their educational journeys.

The event will feature light refreshments, activities, alumni speakers and more.

We invite you to join us in sending our newest Scholars off to higher education with the encouragement of our entire city and region. Your presence and support makes a difference!

Richmond Promise Scholarship Update

This past
month, our scholarship application closed, and we are thrilled to share that we received 564 applicants. This number is consistent with previous years, positively indicating that students are aware of our scholarship and wraparound programs,
and that they want our community’s support in their higher education journeys.

Over the next several weeks, our staff and applicants will engage in a busy and exciting process that includes application review, next step workshops, and summer programming after students are accepted into our new cohort.

Launch of RP Leads

Thanks to the generous support of Kaiser Permanente and the hard work of our staff, Richmond Promise has launched our new career accelerator program, RP Leads. RP Leads was created after receiving clear
and consistent feedback from our Scholars that they would like more support preparing for their careers and adult lives. Through this new multi-year program, we will prepare our Scholars to become the Bay Area’s future leaders through career access and success
curriculum, networking opportunities, new internship partnerships, job placement support, and more. We’re excited to welcome our inaugural group of RP Leads participants this summer, and I look forward to sharing more updates about the program in the future.

Guide the Next Generation of Leaders – Become a Mentor

I’m thrilled to share that we are accepting applications for our 2025-2026 Mentor Program. Applications are due on May 31, 2025. Through a hybrid (virtual and in-person, when possible) model,
our volunteer mentors have a unique opportunity to support a Scholar as they navigate higher education and career preparation.

I invite you to apply to be a mentor and use your perspectives and lived experiences to support a Scholar as they set career goals, craft a resume and cover letter, expand their professional networks, and prepare for life after higher education. Click

RP Alumni Spotlight – Chandani Battle

Meet Chandani Battle, a graduate of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and Richmond Promise alum who recently completed a prestigious fellowship with the Coro Fellows Program
in Public Affairs. Throughout her several month fellowship, Chandani worked at various non-profits, businesses, and government offices, including the San Francisco Housing Accelerator Fund and the office of California Governor Gavin Newsom. To conclude her
fellowship, Chandani returned to Richmond Promise to help analyze Scholar data and advise our staff on the development of our forthcoming Alumni Association. In just one month of collaboration, Chandani delivered insights and analysis that will benefit Richmond
students for years to come. Click
