I’m going to meet Aunt Susan (she’s been to the dentist) downtown this morning to look at chests for me — she knows so much more about them & can tell which are good. Have
certainly had a marvelous time this week. Wednesday afternoon about four – after I had consoled myself with a murder story & a few winks of sleep – Kay called saying I was to go on the picnic with Lt. Dixie Frazier[1]
in ten minutes. So I grabbed a can of spam, loaf of bread & olives & peanuts and we fled. Dixie is just simply
wonderful – think I’ll die of heartbreak or something if he doesn’t ask me for another date. After all the drips of DeRussy, etc., Dixie was the most marvelous evenings of fun I’ve had in
months – he’s a West Pointer, Coast Art. and from Birmingham Alabama – drives a cute little maroon convertible – well, there just doesn’t seem to b a single thing wrong with him – except that he didn’t fall madly in love with me as I would have liked
him to. Tall, brown eyes, sense of humor – everything! Now, he’ll probably announce his engagement to some other gal this week – Oh woe.
But, back to the picnic – we picked up Kay’s date (an Ens.) at Pearl H. Club & headed for Nanakuli[2]
– a beach on the westward side of the island. It as a lovely evening – there on the beach with the huge waves beating on the sand – a glorious sunset across the water, reflecting on the mountains behind us, a deep rose. Then twilight, and a full moon, white
on the beach and breakers.
There were five couples of us – all navy except Dixie and me. I have a date tonight with Ens. Huffman (he’s from Birmingham, too) who was with some navy gal there. Not very
exciting prospect – wish it were D. – instead. Yesterday – and every morning this week – I’ve been washing, pressing & mending & still have lots to do before Monday – we sail at 8:00 A.M. Yesterday about noon, Kay came by & we had lunch at DeRussy – it was
a drab dull rainy day. Then over to Ruger to her house for me to see her hope chest (she’s engaged to an Air Corps man – met him on he ship coming over & three days later announced engagement – he’s in the P. Islands now for two years & she can’t go to him
since they’re evacuating Army families from there). Last night Kay, Frankie Munfort & Carol Hayfort (all Army girls) played bridge here. We had a marvelous time & good game. The other two girls are engaged to ensigns – I was quite a novelty among the three
of them.

Friend Dunlop dripped over the phone for a date last night which I refused – then Haaland called for last night & Saturday, but no could do, either. Tomorrow AM Kay & I are
going to play badminton at the Ruger Club then lunch & swim at DeRussy – date with max tomorrow night — & Sunday I have only hopes that by some miracle Mr. Frazier will seek me out. Gotta dress now & post this for clipper mail. Next letter will be from Hilo.
I hate to leave Honolulu right now – sorta – cause so many nice things are happening – new friend & different people & things to do.
