Monday –

Got your letter today — & I was happy to hear from you! Long time no see – long time no hear. So clipper days with letters really put a sparkle of happiness all over me! I
hope you have my letter about plans to come home in third week of July – I’m sorry about being so slow on prices, times and everything, but think everything is shaping up on schedule now. Tomorrow I will get July boat schedules and enclose them.

How much I enjoyed hearing about the spring blossoms in our house! It must be really dressed up – the bedspreads sound precious.

I’m so glad “Little Sis” is up and chirping again – it’ll be grand for them to get to go to Ludington. I think you should take a vacation – absolutely complete from rugs, missionary
societies. It would be so wonderful if we could meet in Los Angeles – just can’t
think of anything more glorious. I’m sorry I was so indefinite & worried you about the Hilo trip – it has all worked out beautifully because Uncle Ed & Aunt Susan will have their trip while I’m there. We leave next Monday on the Royal Frank – stay two
weeks. Mandy is not well enough to go by ship so will fly over, but her mother – Mrs. Ryan – and Mrs. Boyd & Janet S. & I will go as planned. With the last check I’ll have plenty of money – but am not quite sure yet about all expenses. It’s about $1.50 a day
– then a few incidentals for a round the island tour, etc.

Honestly, you’ve no idea how grand a letter from home is! Guess I’m pretty homesick – but so happy here, too. What should I write Uncle Arthur & Grandmother about stopping there?
And I’ve about decided on the U of Ark. but still dallying mentally over L.S. U. – we should start writing about rush dates etc. Maybe I should concentrate on a business course with law (commercial) etc. Sounds so dull, but certainly would be useful — & I’ve
been useless long enough.

My hula is coming along beautifully – am learning my third dance!

Had a marvelous day today – after hula lessons, did a little window shopping, then met Beth H. at DeRussy for lunch. We sunned & swam – then got up a bridge foursome with Holland
& Pierson later. I’m going to the movies with max tonight.

Just think! Seven – only seven – more weeks after Hilo — & five days to cross – then the good ole Newnited States again! And seven weeks here drop like a few days of rain in
a cloudburst they-re gone so quickly.

Today is “Boys Day” for all the Japanese boys – you’ve of course heard of their native Jap custom. Gigantic fish bellowing in the wind, hung on a huge post by the houses – one
for each son, largest for eldest & so on down. Kites, firecrackers & much rejoicing for the sons of the family.

Aunt Susan & I made divinity the other day – most of the ingredients & acts were “mistakes” – cooked, _______ & beaten to four sore arms & still not hard. Tasted good, though.

I had such a gorgeous, heavy pink carnation lei last night – it kept overnight & I wore it all day. Felt a little savage spending the day barefooted, clad in scanty bathing
suit, with a wreath of flowers around my shoulders. But SUCH BLISS! It’s the proper thing to do for three miles around Waikiki — don’t know how I’ll ever become “reacclimated” to hats, hose and shoes again – and gloves are beyond all span of imagination.

If you all should not (I’m
hoping & hoping & hoping that you will come) come to Los A. – will you send me F. Ellens’s address soon? You just can’t possibly imagine how Much I want to see you & what a
wonderfully thrilling thing if you could meet my boat.

Got a good letter from Weldon today. Said he couldn’t figure out anything definite at all from my answer – which was exactly what I intended – so guess it’s “O.K.”
