Thursday –
Just to sign off, and get this out in tomorrow’s mail – got your clipper today & will send an airmail first of next week when I have all the “dope” on tickets, etc.
Uncle Ed & Aunt Susan are out for a dinner party tonight & I’m here all alone – except Lillian is spending the night to be here with me. No plans for the evening, and I’m tired anyway after
the last two days excitement which I’ll put in the other letter. So this will be comb. In next mail.
Love,
Cecilia
Dear Daddy & Mother,
Had the most wonderful time last night – with the most wonderful date at the “ditto” party. My heart has been beating forty miles a minute ever since, and it’s so hopeless because he’s the most
confirmed bachelor on the island, and it’s not only improbable but impossible that he’ll even ask me or a date – he
never goes out except to parties – just stays with his first loves, Baron (his German shepherd dog pedigreed for pages) – his civilization forsaken post at Weaver where he’s the only officer – baching in a shanty on the beach. Oh
unhappy day! He talks exactly like Pinkney – I couldn’t tell their voices apart if they were both speaking.
Name: Dick “Dixie” Fraser (from Montgomery Ala.)
Description: Couldn’t be better (unless he unconfirmed his bacherlorship).
Anyhoo – back to the party at Bunt Slauson’s at Hickham Field, we met at her house for cocktails, then went to the officers club for dinner and dancing. All the crowd that was at Kilauea was
there with husbands, beaux, etc. and about twenty other couples, most of whom I never did meet. We had fun dancing – “Dixie” isn’t a very good dancer, but such marvelous company that we danced every piece and had such a glorious time I forgot he couldn’t dance
– besides he can waltz and swirl.
We were down at DeRussy yesterday afternoon, & stayed so late that our entrance at Bunt’s was an hour late – and Dixie told everyone there that if I hadn’t insisted on stopping for that third
hamburger on the way out, we wouldn’t have been late. Everyone has teased me endlessly, since I’ve been home from Hawaii, about newly acquired poundage and appetite.
From the club, the part migrated to Bunt’s but we came on back to town.
Today at noon I had an Aloha luncheon for Mandy at the Young Hotel – with Bunt, Ruth, Babe – gave M. a lovely seven strand pikake lei. Babe, Holland & I are going to the boat tomorrow when she
sails.
The luncheon was perfect! You can imagine the chatter and excitement of uncovering things happened at Kilauea, and the part of last night.
Afterward I went up to Ruth’s for a coke, and she & husband Sid brought me home.
Tried to get up a bridge game here tonight with no luck – wasn’t very enthusiastic about it anyhoo. Think that’s about all the news – I went to Lau Fee C. with Dunlop for a little while the
other night, and have decided not to make any more dates with him – I’d rather have the sleep, which is most unkind but remains the same. Geo Cummins rambled into DeRussy yesterday afternoon and brought me home.
Honestly, you’ve no idea how dull everyone —
