Honolulu Tuesday April 29, 1941

Tues. night

I have to finish this & put it out for tomorrow’s clipper – so will try to fix my financial data –

To date – I am saving the remaining $20.00 of the last check for the Hilo trip & may need $10.00 more IF I have to pay my own ship fare, meals, etc. The remainder is to go for
cleaning & preparations (has gone, rather) for the Hilo trip.

I think, as soon as possible you should send $150.00 to let me get my SS ticket. I plan to get a cheaper room than that, but if the only one possible is such in July, I can
go on & make reservations. The sooner the better chance to get a return ticket for $125.00.

Chest prices for the white bleached teak is $25.00 (at an inferior unsure side street shop) and $32.00 at a reliable East India store. Either bamboo or lotus carvings. The latter
store will crate it to be shipped as part of my luggage.

Canton linen prices will have to wait until next letter as they have no telephone & are open only short hours. Then, about size, quality & number of Lauhala mats, glass balls,
coral. If I bring the Garretts (Libbs & Mary Elenor) anything the tiny, many strands of pakiki shells shakers are nice.

Then, Frances Ellens address, and what do you think about a 2 day stop at El Paso? And train fare figuring, I think, had better wait until I can get these other complications
clear out of the way. But sailing around July 21st won’t leave me any time to waste in getting rounded up for coming home. I’m such a poor manager & even thinking of spending all this money frightens me.

I’m getting pretty anxious to get home but still getting lots out of every day here, and being with Aunt Susan. Can just about get organized & off in July third week.

This will probably get to you all about Mothers’ Day – so I’ll send a kiss for greetings. I love you very much, and I am wishing I could send you even half of all the lovely
thoughts and gifts I want to.
