Monday –
Seems I skipped “tomorrow” and am on today again. Just came in from having dinner with Bob D. and Haaland at the Green Lantern – good lamb chops – it’s a nice place to eat,
on the brick lanai by a lovely lawn and garden.
Had an awfully nice day – went down to DeRussy this morning with Babe Herman, had a grand swim, and ate lunch there later. Then at two, went down to my hula lesson – learned
the rest of “Song of Old Hawaii.”
You’ll never guess who called me yesterday – James Kittrell! He has his reserve commission in the Navy now, and is out here on some ship. He couldn’t reveal its name. We were
going get together today, but he apparently couldn’t get to town because he was to call at three, had he. The navy people here are so uncertain, never knowing when they’re leaving & sailing usually under sealed orders. It’ll be good to see someone from Beebe,
if he can get ashore anytime soon.
A lot of excitement today over an armed British ship on brief call at Pearl Harbor. No public statement as to the why’s and where’s.
Saturday afternoon George & I fizzled out on the tennis & spent the day at DeRussy among cokes, potato chips and the usual Sat. afternoon loafers. Max & I decided to go to Schofield
& leave at six, so he came in just as George & I returned – had a happy little homecoming – such lovely glares were passed around the King parlor.
Sunday afternoon Max & a friend (Navy) McCalister & I rode over the Pali, around the island & the usual weekend terminal of DeRussy. Stayed there till dark then came home for
me to dress, hen met Bob Hand & went to the movies “Luck partners” – dinner at Pauls later & so home.

Mother, I think I’ll leave those old white shorts of mine copied in aqua blue, because I really do need at least one more shorts suit. The red one is a darling & I’ve almost
worn it & washed it to death. Thought maybe I’d have a striped aqua & white skirt like that. Think I can have it done as cheaply as a good ready made ones — & I like the patterns so much. I’d like to have it done right away if I could only get my finances
on the straight and narrow again.
