Honolulu, Thursday July 10, 1941
Oh joy! The Matson office just called saying they had a cancellation for me on Lurline the 17th of July – but it is $145.00 room. Wish Uncle Ed would let me go cabin class – I hate to pay that
much but feel that I’d better grab whatever I can get now as there is so little time to make plans. Got Monkey’s letter & think it would be perfectly swell to stay there a few days – am getting her off a clipper Monday saying “Thanks.” – I get to Los Angeles
July 25. So with one day at El Paso will get home about the 30th or 31st.
I had the cutest date last night –Ensign Jimmy Starns (from Atlanta, GA) – we cruised around in his 1931 Packard – one of those super jobs, 12 passengerish – as a matter of fact, it was used
as locomotion for Pres. Roosevelt when he was here in ’33. Anyhoo, we had fun – went to the Young roof to dance.
