This was sent out by the North and Easy Neighborhood Council. Help if you can.
Neighbors and fellow Richmond residents,
No doubt you’ve heard of the horrible home invasion on the morning of August 26th that left a grandmother dead, a father in critical condition and a family traumatized.
Many neighbors have offered assistance and the family is very appreciative of these efforts. The best way our community can help this stricken family is through monetary donations and volunteers have established a benefit fund:
Cash or check contributions can be made to “The Kumar Family Benefit” at any Mechanics Bank branch.
Let’s all pull together and show our support for this wonderful and innocent family that has been dealt such a cruel blow. Every little bit helps! Please forward this message to all your friends in Richmond and beyond.
Thanks so much for your help!

Community raises money for custodian injured in Richmond shooting
By Karl Fischer Contra Costa Times Posted: 08/30/2011 02:49:17 PM PDT Updated: 08/30/2011 02:55:58 PM PDT The North and East Neighborhood Council invites donations to a support fund for the family of a custodian wounded during a failed burglary at his home in Richmond last week. Dinesh Kumar, 46, found a stranger in his kitchen about 4 a.m. Friday when he went to cook breakfast for his family, police said. He fought with the intruder, who shot him several times, and also killed his mother, 67-year-old Sushila Prasad, who was visiting from Fiji. Police arrested one suspect, 21-year-old parolee Gerardo Colon Jr., in a car near the house. Detectives continue to search for a second man believed involved. Kumar, who works as a day custodian at Berkeley High School, should survive his injuries, Principal Pasquale Scuderi reported in a letter to the school community. His wife and two school-age children escaped without injury. The school will accept contributions at the school office through Friday. Berkeley High is located at 1980 Allston Way. Those in Richmond who wish to donate can make cash or check contributions to “The Kumar Family Benefit” at any Mechanics Bank branch.
