Dear Friends, I am writing to invite neighbors, community groups and civic leaders throughout Assembly District 14 (AD 14) to submit nominations of women who have gone above and beyond the call of duty and by doing so, making a significant difference in our communities. From the excellent nominees we receive, one woman from each of the 14 communities in Assembly District 14 will be chosen. The women selected will be honored at a “Women of the Year” dinner on Thursday, March 3, 2011. I am seeking nominations for women from each of the fourteen cities in AD 14: Albany, Berkeley, Canyon, El Cerrito, Emeryville, Kensington, Lafayette, Moraga, North Oakland, Orinda, El Sobrante, Pleasant Hill, Richmond and San Pablo. The criteria for nominees are:
Must be female residents who live in AD 14. Have made a notable contribution to a community in AD 14. Shown a strong track record of volunteerism. Going above and beyond the duties of a paid position over the past year. Not previously honored for her contribution to the community.
Last year’s winners were honored for their tireless efforts in areas such as preventing gay and lesbian teen suicide, building the Lafayette Community Library, stopping domestic violence and educating deaf and hard of hearing children.
