With 32 miles of shoreline (more than any other city on San Francisco Bay), the Port of Richmond, the highly secured Chevron Refinery and the Coast Guard-owned East Brother Light Station, the Coast guard has a lot of interest in Richmond. I was invited to meet the new Sector Commander, Captain Taylor Q. Lam, at the Sector San Francisco campus on Yerba Buena Island.

This morning, I met the captain and his staff and got a guided tour of the Emergency Operations Center and the Vessel Traffic Control Center. For security reasons, no photographs were allowed of the impressive facilities, but afterwards, we got a group photo.
