Energy Efficiency Living Tips
Water Heater Tips:
Heat water to 120*F. Turn your water heater off when you’re on vacation.
Refrigerator Tips:
Set the temperature between 38*F and 42*F. The freezer should be set between 0*F and 5*F. A full fridge/freezer uses less energy than an empty one. Fill extra space with gallon jugs of water.

When you choose MCE, you can count on stable and affordable rates for clean energy. The rates you pay MCE for procurement of energy, or generation, simply replace what PG&E would have charged for its generation. Because PG&E continues to provide other services, like the transmission and delivery of electricity, our customers see charges from both MCE and PG&E for different services. There are no duplicate charges.
As of January 1, 2013 residential customers who choose MCE’s Light Green 50% renewable energy will have lower electric bills than customers who choose PG&E’s 20% renewable energy.
Based on average customer usage, typical residential customers are saving approximately $1.60 per month, while the average commercial customer saves approximately $6.95 per winter month.
It’s important to remember that cost comparisons between MCE and PG&E can vary depending on a number of factors including monthly usage, rate schedules, and PG&E or MCE rate changes.
Calculate the cost savings for your home with our easy-to-use rate calculator, here. You can learn more about MCE rates here.
Choosing MCE Gives Back to Your Community
When you choose MCE, you’re not only helping the environment – you’re investing in your community. That’s because MCE reinvests a portion of ratepayer dollars to fund local projects and programs, such as the San Rafael Airport solar project and the installation of electric vehicle charging stations. We also support local organizations such as the Marin Agricultural Land Trust and Bay Area Rescue Mission Richmond through sponsorships and donations. Learn how we support your community here.
