Cerritos Creek at Pacific East Mall (Pacific East Mall is in Richmond)

Please joint us this Saturday, Feb. 23, planting oaks and riparian trees on Cerrito Creek at Pacific East Mall! This is the reward for all our clearing last fall — we can finally start “positive” restoration! There’s lots to be done, light and heavy, and we didn’t publicize this work party widely because of uncertainty about readiness. So I hope lots of you will turn out. Bring work gloves and picks and shovels if you have them; we’ll start at 10 am at the south edge of Pacific East Mall parking lot (3288 Pierce St.) Park in the mall just north of Albany Hill, or walk west from Creekside Park at the south end of Belmont St. in El Cerrito. It’s near El Cerrito BART; the 43 bus stops on Pierce and the 72 nearby on San Pablo.

Jobs: East Bay Regional Parks has an immediate opening for a part time student interpretive aide; please call (510-841-8732) for an application, or call Steve Edwards or Joe Dahl at the garden for information.

Jobs: At another end of the scale, California Native Plant Society is looking for an executive director, with salary in the range of $65 – $80k. Please see the job description at http://www.cnps.org/jobs.htm>http://www.cnps.org/jobs.htm

If you are voting absentee, remember that Measure K will supply funds for badly needed watershed maintenance and protection in the East Bay Regional Parks (headwaters of many Bay Area creeks), and that Prop 40 will supply funding for the land acquisition and restoration projects vital to protect and restore the San Francisco Bay estuary ecosystem.
