Scaring up some fun
More than 500 revelers, many in costume like Sigrid Laing, above left, and Cherry Jones, above right, took a break from the workday to support a good cause and get a close look at a seldom-seen local landmark Friday at Ghosts of Winehaven, a fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Richmond Peace Project. At left, Don Lau of the Richmond Rotary pours a glass of wine.
The event was held in the castle structure that was one of the warehouses at Winehaven, a 400-acre complex on the shoreline that was known in the early 20th century as the largest winery in the world. Proceeds from the benefit ” which featured lunch, wine tasting and a silent auction ” went to the Rotary chapter’s Peace Project, an initiative dedicated to reducing violent crime in Richmond through a six-month mentoring project sponsored by the club and the nonprofit organization Opportunity West.
