Rumors have been floating around for some time that the City of Richmond is planning to dismantle and remove the Whirley Crane, now loated adjacent to the SS Red Oak Victory at historic Shipyard
3, which is a California historic landmark and part of a historic district listed in the National Register of Historirc Places. Waiting for confirmation may be too late, so the Winehaven Trust, a Richmond-based historic preservation nonprofit is preparing
to take the City of Richond to court to prevent removal of the Whirley Crane.

Hopefully, the City will see the value of retaining and maintaining the Whirley Crane as intended in the Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front General Management Plan. The letter to the city attorney
and the draft complaint is copied below.
