Mail service had declined rapidly in Richmond this week. One explanation was reported on the North and East Neighborhood Council Yahoo Groups website (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/North_and_East_News/) from USPS Safety Coordinator Maria Cannon (510/232-9582), who said that this is a problem only in the Richmond area. They are having serious problems with the retention of postal workers. Five employees alone quit yesterday with no notice. When this happens, the other postal workers have to deliver as many as two additional routes in addition to their regular route. They will be hiring ten more people today.
