  Cecilia King's Extraordinary Senior Trip - April 8, 1941
April 8, 2025

Beginning on November 1, 2024, which is the date of my mother’s first letter from her Hawaii trip 84 years ago, I am serializing day by day, the book, Cecilia King’s Extraordinary Senior Trip, which you can obtain from Amazon in either Kindle or paperback.

I hope you enjoy the upcoming nine-months in Hawaii 1940-41. You can order the entire book from Amazon in either paperback or Kindle format, click here.

Honolulu Tuesday, April 8, 1941

This morning Aunt Susan said she & Uncle Ed were going over to Maui Island for a week or two rest from Tripler & leaving within the next ten days – and would I ask Miss Wing or Keharts to take me in for the time they’re gone. It seemed quite an imposition to me – so I floundered around & suggested Jackey, Mandy or the McCarleys instead -- & she instantly pounced wanting to know where were my family’s friends’ southern hospitality. I really couldn’t quite see calling either of them to ask to be a two week guest so I surrendered and listened to a lecture on southerners’ false pride & evil ways & let it go at that. She admitted sarcasm & I admitted her friends had done more for me than the few we knew here, & all ended. Pleasantly (though she still remembers Carol calling her a damn Yankee, even though she started it with “Thou Rebel.”) But – “when in Rome ---” Sometimes Rome is a “fur piece” from Arkansas – But who can expect a primrose path with no stones on it? And I’m happy.

After hula lessons this morning – A. Susan dictated & I wrote my 2nd set of exercises (I do them every day except hula class days).
