| Beginning on November 1, 2024, which is the date of my mother’s first letter from her Hawaii trip 84 years ago, I am serializing day by day, the book, Cecilia King’s Extraordinary Senior Trip, which you can obtain from Amazon in either Kindle or paperback.
I hope you enjoy the upcoming nine-months in Hawaii 1940-41. You can order the entire book from Amazon in either paperback or Kindle format, click here.

Letter from Max Pitney to Cecilia March 3, 1941
Sunday – 11:00 P.M.
Dearest Peanut.
As a committee of one, I have been appointed to inform you of a most pleasant affair to be when a “cousin” (bachelor) has a birthday that worthy person deems it necessary to supply his “cousins” with a spot of champagne. You have just been officially accepted as “Cousin Cecilia.” You have a birthday (March 6. Need we say more? Kapitalo follow the champagne). And should lack of time bother you, we are willing to wait patiently until the 15th.
Bob and I reached Schofield about 10:30 last night and joined the poker party. Had a really quiet evening. He had his first swim in an ocean this afternoon.
As we’re going into the field Wed., I’s kike a date Tues. nite if you’re O.K. by then. I’ll call you Tues A.M. about both the date and going to see the boat off. The latter event will occur at 11:00 A.M. Tues. as far as anyone knows now.
So hope you’re fit as a fiddle again. And forget that horrid talk about going home.
Please don’t think me nuts for writing this on airmail paper. It just happened to be the only available.
Bob hand, living in my apartment this noon, wandered out the back door and into the house behind mine thinking it was Walt’s house. He got all the way thru the rear hall before he realized he was in Chaplain Donohue’s house. Whala-lad!
Thanks so much for the drinks, Cecilia. Certainly wish you could have made the rounds this weekend. There is nothing I like doing so well as showing you a good time. Your enjoyment of life is a wonderful thing to behold.
Make an extra-special effort to recover fully by Tuesday, and I’ll be knocking at your door about 11:00 A.M.
Yours for many more months in Hawaii,
Max |
