| Beginning on November 1, 2024, which is the date of my mother’s first letter from her Hawaii trip 84 years ago, I am serializing day by day, the book, Cecilia King’s Extraordinary Senior Trip, which you can obtain from Amazon in either Kindle or paperback.
I hope you enjoy the upcoming nine-months in Hawaii 1940-41. You can order the entire book from Amazon in either paperback or Kindle format, click here.
Honolulu, Sunday, February 9, 1941
Sunday night
Seven o’clock, and I’m turning in for a good night’s rest. Got home about five thirty & Mrs. Dunlop had called saying that Bob had called her via field telephone to tell me they were still on alert – hence no date tonight. Nearly all the field & coast A, Air Corps, Infantry & all are either in the field now or on alert, so guess I’ll be having several pleasant evenings at home.
Had a very nice weekend – Max came by at about 11:30 – had a malted milk at Kau Kau, then to Kemoos for lunch. A holiday in Honolulu, as usual, caught everybody buzzing – parks & streets jammed & highways pulsing – by Pearl Harbor, very gala – all the grey ships with their hundreds of holiday decorations and flags. And Uncle Sam playing – or should I say probleming with troops all out – big guns along the roadside
