Dear Daddy & Mother –
I have just packed and gotten my wits (or tried to) together to go to Schofield. And donned all wool clothes & heavy wraps for the mountain air – it’s been so cool in town the last few days & Uncle Ed says it’ll be much colder there.
Yesterday afternoon I had just plastered my face with almond meal & looked like yesterday in a sheet when in tramped Bob Dunlop unheralded – wanting to go down to DeRussy Club. So I quick changed appearance and we went down to join the usual afternoon crowd, sitting huddled in a corner out of the Kona wind. About six thirty got in the car to start home & he suggested we have supper first – to Kau Kau it was. Had a lot of fun – but came rushing home with only ten minutes to dress for my date –
Charley & I went to the Young roof hoping for a good waltz and not-so-crowded floor – but a pan-Hellenic party ruled the roost and it was more crowded that Sat. night. We were sitting at our table between dances when up walked Louise Kehart dragging some Navy engineer – we introduced and chatted a while – then later Martin came over & invited us to join their table at the big sor-frat party, Met about 50 people whose names I don’t remember & Charley sat like a knot on a log – but I enjoyed it. Then the usual detours home via Kau Kau for a hamburger, etc.
Thursday night I checked up on the constellations & Zodiac signs I hadn’t seen & we saw the comet Skjellerup[1]. It was quite pretty -- and the long ray of light that was hundred somteen mile tail was very clear.
Bob just called up with “This is Adams” but wasn’t his usual jovial self when he found out I was spending the weekend at Schofield – guest of Pitney.
