I hope you enjoy the upcoming nine-months in Hawaii 1940-41. You can order the entire book from Amazon in either paperback or Kindle format, click here.

Honolulu, Saturday, February 15, 1941
Saturday morning –
Had the most wonderful time out at Schofield last night at the 8th Field hop -- with (Lt.) George Cumming – a reserve from Utah. Rather, that’s who I went and came with. Dunlop called up yesterday to find out if I were going to the hop -- & sure enough, there he was – didn’t dance with me once but checked up thoroughly on what was going on around me.
Also, very muchly present were Bob, Walt, & Max. Valentine’s day, still bachelors & not a date among them so they proclaimed a champagne party in celebration of the great day.
Then out of the clear blue sky came this waiter balancing a huge tray on his hand – in the tray, one glass of champagne with an attached notice “With love from the three musketeers.” All night they stood “at attention” on the dance floor, cutting in & out every piece -- & three funnier people I’ve never seen. They finally kidnapped me – so Max could give me his Valentine’s gift (box of Whitman samples) then made their exit for the night. And I returned to our 8th table & George, who was wondering if he even had a date. Westy was sitting next to me so we had quite a little chat & dance (we both exhibited our one rumba lesson to the dance floor – but shortly agreed on a waltz as better). He’s going back on the March fourth boat – too bad – well, I’ll see him tonight.
But back to last night, saw Mrs. Hamilton & met her table – husband was missing in the rush.
