Beginning on November 1, which is the date of my mother’s first letter from her Hawaii trip 84 years ago, I am serializing day by day, the book, Cecilia King’s Extraordinary Senior Trip, which you can obtain from Amazon in either Kindle or paperback.

I hope you enjoy the upcoming nine-months in Hawaii 1940-41.

Thursday morning

Was so tired last night I didn’t stop, on my way to bed, to write anything. Had a very nice time at the party (there were about 60 or70 people there). The Ms. Roberts with whom I went is the loveliest person & was just grand about introducing me. I found that both of my carriageless dates had ’41 Buicks. One was a nat. guard reserve, very homely, about 30 – he gave me quite a rush -- & wanted to take me around the island Sunday but I had this other date & wasn’t very interested anyhoo. The other one, Sandel, is the most handsome man I’ve ever laid eyes on (& is aware of it) besides that he has a beautiful ’41 convertible Buick coupe. He’s fourth on the list of reserves waiting for regular commissions, so was very busy using his charming personality on his ranking officers’ wives -- & very successfully, too. He’s from a plantation near Birmingham, Alabama -- & is engaged, but not seriously, to a Catholic girl on the mainland.

Had a grand bar B Q chicken dinner – then dancing afterwards. Met several very nice young married couples, & saw a few older friends of U. Ed & A. Susan. After the orchestra signed off, young Sandel brought me home via Kau Kau for a glass of milk – so ended the day.

Guess that’s about all my flustered thoughts at present so I’ll close this & drop it in the mailbox for the Matsonia tomorrow. Will try to get my financial statement out there tomorrow, too. But I have no pressing needs right now – am very happily situated mentally & financially – so another good night with loads of love,

Cecilia
