Dear Daddy and Mother –
Just got both your letters – seems that you all have been having a continual Friday 13th – hope the flu is out of the house now and you are both feeling well.
Thanks, too, for the envelope of Natchez, Springfield, etc. you sent. I thought I had written Carol & Pink, but just in case I quick wrote them again when I got your letter. I’m glad the Paris show was such a success – it must have been a perfect setting for the rugs –
Please excuse all the jumble of ideas but I want them all down before & so I won’t forget anything. Wish you’d write to Aunt Jessie & find the man’s name, station & branch here so I could keep a lookout for him. I’ll listen for the name, but there are so many people coming & going all the time it’s hard to place anybody – I haven’t looked up Miss Wing yet but will –and the Keharts have faded away, haven’t heard from them since we returned their call.
Aunt Susan was absolutely thrilled with the dozen water lilies I sent yesterday for their anniversary – they were really beautiful! Then today, roses and others came from Dottie – so our living room is quite gay -- & so fragrant – two tube rose leis of my night life” on a hall screen – like a perfume counter.
Last night had fun – went dancing at Lai Yee Chai with Charley Dole & we met two other couples there. Errol Flynn (movies) was there – I could have met him through a Navy girl I knew there – but hated to be so obviously anxious --- & was quite happy with Charley anyhoo. He says definitely that I’m to christen his boat & have the second ride in it –the first goes to the Yacht Club Japanese “boat builders” who helped him. We’re going dancing again next Tuesday & Friday.
I’ve certainly had a shift of dates for the weekend parties – from Billy Herron to Robert Dunlop (a reserve now, but Army third) – and, darn it, to an Air Corps German, Hickelbaker or something, instead of Westy for Saturday night. Mary Jane couldn’t get in touch with Westy until this week & he had already made another engagement. Very discouraging. He’ll be going back to the mainland even before I see him again, I’m afraid. On second thought, maybe I’ll see him out at Schofield next sat. night, unless Max keeps me away from the club just for that reason – Max steers me away from Westy every chance he gets.
Tom Wells, navy ens. – called me last night to go out to a party on the Astoria but of course I was practically on my way out the door to go somewhere else.
Aunt Susan & I are going shopping next week to get me a dress. She’s very interested in trying different colors on me – especially partial to chartreuse green. Something I can wear out dancing informally during the week because the three I have are getting rather tattered, and going out every single night certainly takes its toll on the clothes. I’ve been washing, ironing & mending for the last three days -- & can’t see a thing accomplished.
M having dinner alone tonight (the family is going to DeRussy Pavilion dinner) & then I’m going the DeRussy Club with Adams – guess that’s all the news this issue. Oh yes --- if you want a good amusing book, try “Mr. Littlejohn” --
