-missing pages –

…parked us in the admiral’s cabin (he being on one of the outer cruisers – there were three huddled together like doves on a twig) changed to uniform for dinner & down to the J.O. mess. Grand dinner as usual – but there’s just something about Navy people that I can’t quite fathom. They’re proper, courteous – but just don’t seem to have any “umph” – and not much fun to be around. I still take Field Artillery. Well – anyhoo –after coffee we caught the Minw. Boat into dock and headed for town (after cranking) went to Trader Vic’ for one of his very famous “scorpion” – served for four people in a big crockery bowl in the center of the table with long crooked straws out to each person. Discovered something new there – turtle shells hung upside down in fish nets, with a bulb above (hidden) but showing through the shell.

There goes the house rocking again! For the last three days the battleships have been out 45 miles – practicing target practice or war – and because of the Kona winds, the roar & earth tremble is very much like an earthquake – One night the radio stations had many frantic calls to report the earthquake –

Back to last night – though – from Trader Vic’s we trapsed up the Young roof garden to dance. After trotting several numbers out with Tom, as a last resort I requested The Blue Danube – he waltzes beautifully, so the one perfect dance made up for all the trots.

Worley called last night just before I left and wanted to take me to an aloha party at Wheeler Field – but it was too late. Besides, those Wheeler parties are a little too lively and wildish for me.

Yesterday in town I ordered a dozen lotus blossoms to be sent out to Uncle Ed and Aunt Susan on Tues. –their anniversary. The girl said they would fix them in a ti leaf arrangement, nicely.

Max called practically at dan today to see if there were any final orders for the picnic.

And I almost forgot – A. Susan wakened me the other morning, saying she had found half of a husband for me. She was all excited & anxious to relay the result of her discoveries. He’s from about six generations of Army – a reserve at present – his family wants him to marry – is tall, dark – but a definite Yankee. So we shall see –

Helen is coming in soon – she’s staying here tonight after our party at DeRussy. I don’t even know yet what I shall wear – and don’t care a lot – am saving all my energy and new dresses for next weekend. Guess that’s about all the news to date –
