  Cecilia King's Extraordinary Senior Trip - November 4, 1940
November 4, 2024

Beginning on November 1, which is the date of my mother’s first letter from her Hawaii trip 84 years ago, I am serializing day by day, the book, Cecilia King’s Extraordinary Senior Trip, which you can obtain from Amazon in either Kindle or paperback.

I hope you enjoy the upcoming nine-months in Hawaii 1940-41.

El Paso, Monday, November 4, 1940

Monday night --

Not much to report tonight – sept till eleven – had lunch here with Mrs. Simmons, then took a taxi downtown to 702 Coples. Uncle Arthur examined my eyes & found them exactly the same as the last examination report. As Margaret & he were too busy, we didn’t get to make the final Juarez roundup – but will tomorrow.

Josephine left tonight – all moon eyed over one of the border patrol students who is staying here – seems pretty lonesome in the room without her – she was very nice, congenial & attractive.

We went over to see the Blackwells tonite & their Tom, Dick & Harry. They seemed very glad to see me & sent regards to both of you & the cute little 1 ½ year old Carol --- their oldest son is a student in airplane school of some sort in Calif. “too bad,” they said, “he isn’t here to really show you El Paso sights.” After seeing his picture I said uh-uh with Grandmother.

I am hoping that tomorrow I’ll get in one of Margaret’s famous lunches. As Uncle Arthur is strictly opposed to restaurant eating – she fixes their lunch of coffee, fish, salad & cheese in the office every day – has most pleasant meals, he says.

When I told someone today that I was planning (in the dark & distant future) to do 6 needlepoint chair covers for antique chairs – she suggested that I but the chairs now & they would be antique by the time I had become victor over six pieces of needlepoint – and I’m beginning to agree.

When I predicted rain this cloudy morning, someone (very graciously --- for the outlet) accused me of either being a foreigner or fool. So I chose to be called a foreigner when the sun shone hard all day.

Shucks I’d better mail this in the morning or I’ll have to spend my perfume money on extra stamps to cover the weight.

Love,
Cecilia

Got your letter today – sounds pretty busy – tell me all about conference, the chest of drawers and Springdale house (if it is)

Cecilia
