Beginning on November 1, which is the date of my mother’s first letter from her Hawaii trip 84 years ago, I am serializing day by day, the book, Cecilia King’s Extraordinary Senior Trip, which you can obtain from Amazon in either Kindle or paperback.
I hope you enjoy the upcoming nine-months in Hawaii 1940-41.

Dear Daddy & Mother --
I was very amused tonite by the headlines of the evening paper. We’ve had a slight drizzle of real rain for the last day & night -- & the paper had a huge banner front page story about the terrible storm and flood it had caused – even the German bombings were receded in the vast limelight of a rain in Honolulu.
I was going to turn laundress today but put it off because of the dampness. Uncle Ed came home early & we drove over to DeRussy – but no one was around so we drove up to the Manoa Valley – the clouds were so low we could almost touch them. The valley was lovely – huge Poinsettia trees in full bloom, and giant shrubs that had what seemed to be great fuchsia blossoms hanging from the branches. Th sun set over the sea, after the rain was very brilliant and vivid.
Accomplished nothing today – wrote two letters--- played roulette tonight. And now am just before going to bed & enjoying the cool, fresh night air.
