This Friday ~ PRM Presents
Blü Egyptian & Barrio Manouche!

Watercolor of our June concert by Kate Merriman

Point Richmond Music (PRM's) free summer concerts continue this Friday, July 14th with Blü Egyptian and Barrio Manouche! PRM, an all-volunteer non-profit organization, produces the series in support of its mission to build community through the unifying language of music.

Our music festival takes place on the second Friday of each month, June through September, from 5:30pm to 7:45pm in historic downtown Point Richmond (Park Place between West Richmond and Washington Avenues).

Local restaurants offer a wide array of cuisines, and a rotating selection of food trucks pull up to each concert. Concert-goers can pair fine food with beverages served in biodegradable cups from PRM’s no host bar, with proceeds directly supporting the music series. Festival-style seating is available with a limited number of chairs provided, and concert-goers are encouraged to bring their own festival/lawn chairs. Please visit www.pointrichmondmusic.org for more information.

Friday, July 14th
5:30pm - 6:30pm – Blü Egyptian plays original music encompassing bluegrass, rock, funk, Latin and ska. The group has gained a reputation for their high energy shows with extended multi-genre jams, meaningful songwriting, and entertaining stage antics. Creating a unique fusion of funk, bluegrass, reggae, world music, rock, EDM and more, they continue to push the musical spectrum every day. https://www.bluegyptianband.com

Coming up later this summer:

Friday, August 11th:
5:30pm - 6:30pm – Paper Birds is a cross-country pop-up band fronted by songwriters Claudia Russell and Katie Dahl. Russell is a veteran of California’s Americana Music scene who has won songwriting honors from Boston to Austin. Two thousand miles inland from Russell’s Bay Area home, Dahl has gained a reputation as one of the Midwest’s best young songwriters, writing keenly literate songs planted deep in the ground of her Wisconsin home. Fold in Dahl’s husband Rich Higdon on bass and percussion and Russell’s husband Bruce Kaplan (on mandolin and guitar), and you have a musical outfit adept in creating music that is at once reflective, quirky, and poignant—and an onstage dynamic that is genuinely warm and lively. https://claudiarussell.com/paper-birds-part-time-pop-up-band

6:45pm - 7:45pm – Howell Devine: triple threat talent, Joshua Howell (guitar, harmonica, vocals) and percussion savant, Pete Devine (drums, washboard), plus veteran upright bassist, Joe Kyle Jr. deftly mix Delta/Country Blues with wildly syncopated rhythms to create a rollicking present-day sound rooted in early blues. http://www.howelldevine.com/

Friday, September 8th:
5:30pm - 6:30pm – Lady Bianca is a gospel and R&B vocalist/pianist, artist, and producer who has evolved into an icon in the San Francisco Bay Area, and is widely known as the “Queen of the Blues and Gospel.” She has performed, recorded and toured the world with Frank Zappa, Sly Stone, Van Morrison and John Lee Hooker as a featured vocalist and background vocal arranger. https://ladybiancabandzoogle.com/

6:45pm - 7:45pm – Soji Sai Afrobeat: Original Afrobeat from the San Francisco Bay Area. Adesoji "Soji" Odukogbe hails from Nigeria, and has the distinction of being a member of Fela Anikulapo Kuti's Africa 80 Band in the 1980's as Fela Kuti's Lead Guitarist. Soji & The Afro-Beat Band set the dance floor afire with a churning, polyrhythmic style that he simply calls "authentic original Afrobeat like Fela's type of music, the traditional Afrobeat that nobody does.” Soji & The Afrobeat Band provides a pure Nigerian dance party.

About Point Richmond Music:
Founded in 2001, Point Richmond Music (PRM) is a 501c3 nonprofit public benefit organization that provides free outdoor summer concerts as a way to build community through the unifying language of music. PRM concerts provide a gathering place for people of all ages, ethnicities, and walks of life by featuring musical talent from Richmond, the Bay Area and beyond. In addition to producing a free summer concert series, the group is proud to foster the development of the next generation of musicians through contributions to local school music programs. This collaborative effort relies on donations of time and money from volunteers and local businesses and organizations. Thank you to our 2023 sponsors to date: Republic Services, Mechanics Bank, East Brother Beer, Interactive Resources, Point Richmond Neighborhood Council, MSH Group, M.A. Hays and Wicked Code. We also thank Bruce Kaplan and his AI robots for this year's poster design.
