Next Club Meeting and Peres School Teacher Support
Our next meeting will take place at the Richmond Country Club (address below) on Friday, August 25, 12:30pm.
Shay’s Haircare Clinic
Julie Persons
Shay’s Haircare Clinic is the first haircare clinic in Richmond solely dedicated to providing African American children aged 8-17 with the tools, resources, and education they need to care for their naturally curly, kinky, and wavy hair.
As we all know, our hair is an extension of ourselves and plays a vital role in our confidence and self-esteem. However, for too long, African American children have been left out of the conversation on haircare, resulting in breakage, chemical damage, and hair loss. But at Shay’s Haircare Clinic, they are changing that narrative.
The clinic boasts a talented and passionate team of experts, including a human genetics college instructor, two master stylists who are licensed cosmetologists and salon owners, and a plant-based nutrition specialist. Together, they will educate children on how to care for their hair and scalp both inside and out. But that’s not all; they also delve into trichology, the study of scalp, skin, and hair conditions, and possible hair loss treatments. The clinic is not just about ensuring healthy hair, it’s about building confidence, providing ancestry and genetic background information, and inspiring children to independently and happily care for their natural curls.
So, join us in this exciting journey towards healthy, happy, and confident children. Let’s break the mold and revolutionize haircare for African American children.
Lunch is $25 or a $5 donation without lunch to Richmond Rotary Club is appreciated. Use the Lunch button in the upper right corner of the website to pay for lunch and fast-track the check-in process.

Peres School Teacher Support
Each year we raise money to give each Peres teacher a check for $100 and support the $1,000 Art Education program donation from the estate of Erle Brown's wife, Phylis. Use the Donate button on our website to help us achieve our donation goal. Here's a link to a Richmond Standard news article about our donation last year with a picture of Darlene Rios Drapkin and Erle Brown delivering the checks to the happy teachers. “This is why we do what we do.”
