I was watching the story on 60 Minutes last week about the Ritchie Boys, and it reminded me of the Monuments Men, a similar story of men with special skills being formed into a unit to provide critical services in WWII. Today would be the 114th birthday of Walter Horn, Richmond’s own Monuments Man who was singularly responsible for recovering the crown jewels of the Holy Roman Empire, including the Crown of Charlemagne, stolen and hidden by the Nazis.
