Purpose:
To connect with residents and celebrate Diversity Celebration Month (June) by raising the Juneteenth and LGBT Pride flags at Richmond City Hall

Featured Speakers:

Celebrations:

  • Juneteenth – commemorates the abolition of slavery in Texas on June 19, 1865, signifying the emancipation of the last remaining enslaved African Americans in the Confederacy more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued
  • LGBT Pride Month – commemorates the Stonewall riots by members of the LGBT community against a police raid at the Stonewall Inn in the Manhattan borough of New York City on June 28, 1969, widely considered to be the most important event leading to the gay liberation movement in the country
  • Immigrant Heritage Month – commemorates the monumental contributions that immigrants have made, giving people across the country an opportunity to explore their own heritage and celebrate the shared diversity that forms our unique story
