On May 25th we had the privilege of honoring the 440 students from the graduating Class of 2017 who received the Richmond Promise Scholarship at a community-wide celebration that included civic and education leaders. The total scholarship commitment to the Class of 2017 totals 2.2 million dollars over four years.
This fall, these students will join 255 of their peers from the Class of 2016 for a total of 695 amazing Richmond Promise Scholars representing Richmond on 55 college and university campuses across the country. Thank you to everyone who has dedicated their time, energy, and resources to support our shared scholars and build the Richmond Promise in our first year. It is truly a community-wide, all-in effort, and we could not do it without you.

Supporting our Scholars
Looking ahead, our number one priority is to support our scholars through the summer months to ensure full-time and on-time college enrollment this fall. Please join us in this effort by congratulating a scholar in your life, and reminding them to enroll in our upcoming summer supports - beginning this week:
#1: June College Success Workshops: This summer, in partnership with Youth Finance Institute of America (YFIA), SparkPoint, Students Rising Above, and Contra Costa College, we will host a series of College Success Workshops that are open and mandatory for all scholarship recipients. These workshops will include completion of important paperwork requirements for the scholarship, interpreting financial aid award letters, budgeting for college success, and more:
- Wednesday, June 14: College Success Workshop #1 @ WCC Salesian Boys & Girls Club
- Thursday, June 15: College Success Workshop #2 @ WCC Salesian Boys & Girls Club
- Tuesday, June 20: College Success Workshop #3 @ Contra Costa College (for CCC students only)
- Wednesday, June 21: College Success Workshop #4 @ Contra Costa College (for CCC students only)
#2: Contra Costa College First Year Experience: In addition to our College Success Workshops, we are thrilled to be partnering with Contra Costa College to offer our CCC-bound scholars the Richmond Promise Summer Bridge & First Year Experience Pathway. This includes a summer bridge Math Jam course July 31-August 4, and a first year cohort learning community. All students who are attending CCC this year are required to attend Math Jam and participate in the First Year Experience Pathway or enroll in another supported learning community of their choice. Learn more here, and encourage CCC-bound students to...
Sign up for Math Jam today!!
#3: LEAP Summer Math Refresh: We are excited to be partnering with LEAP to offer a Summer Math Refresh for any Richmond Promise student that is looking to brush up on their math essentials (fractions, decimals, etc) over the summer. This class will be held at Civic Center Plaza July 7-July 14.
Last, please remind all students that they have a home base of college access support over the summer in the Richmond Promise team. Please feel free to call/text or email any time: 510-761-7231 or firstname.lastname@example.org
