Point Richmond Music’s
15th Annual Summer Concert Season
Kicks Off Friday, 6/10

Mark your calendars for the kick off of Point Richmond Music's 15th annual FREE summer concert season! On Friday, June 10th, the summer-long street series begins with Namorados Da Lua (Brazilian) and Johnny Rawls (Blues). Our full 2016 line-up is available at www.pointrichmondmusic.org.

Named Best Outdoor Music Series in 2014 and as an "Absolute Must Do in the East Bay this Summer" by the East Bay Express, the grassroots series has become a Bay Area favorite, with every concert drawing hundreds of people to the historic neighborhood of Point Richmond. Concerts begin at 5:30 pm and feature arts and crafts booths, face-painting for children, opportunity drawings, and dancing in the streets. Point Richmond Music's outdoor concerts are held at the corner of Park Place and Washington Avenue.

Local restaurants offer a wide array of cuisines, and, new this year, one or two food trucks will set up shop at each concert. Concert-goers can pair food with beverages from Point Richmond Music's no host bar, with proceeds directly supporting the music series. And we're going green this year, serving drinks in reusable and biodegradable cups. Please visit www.pointrichmondmusic.org for more information.

Friday, June 10, 5:30 - 6:30 PM
Namorados Da Lua (Brazilian)
www.namoradosdalua.com
Namorados Da Lua (NDL) - translated from Portuguese as "Moon Lovers" - unites Brazilian and North American musicians with a common love of creating positive music with a message.

NDL showcases a beautiful blend of diverse styles, incorporating musical influences from reggae, jazz, pop, rock and funk as well as Brazilian samba, forró, and Axe carnival music.

Their music brings unstoppable driving rhythms, fiery lyrical grooves, harmonious instrumentation and original funk that makes them irresistibly danceable for any audience.

6:45 - 8:00 PM –
Johnny Rawls (Blues)
www.johnnyrawlsblues.com
Veteran soul and blues performer Johnny Rawls was born in Columbia, Mississippi, in 1951 and raised in Purvis and Gulfport, Mississippi.

He acquired an early interest in music when hearing his grandfather play the blues guitar and began playing professionally while still in high school with such stars as ZZ Hill, Little Johnny Taylor, Joe Tex and the Sweet Inspirations. In the mid-70's, Johnny went to work for OV Wright as Wright's band director. After Wright's death in 1980, Johnny led Little Johnny Taylor's band until 1985, when he began touring as a solo artist and made his first solo recording under the Rainbow label.

In 2009 Johnny won Best Soul Blues Album of the Year from the Blues Foundation. In addition, Johnny was honored with a Blues Trail Marker located at the original site of the Hi Hat Club in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He shares the plaque with soul blues legends Tyrone Davis and Little Milton.
