In a vote taken last Thursday night, the West Contra Costa Integrated Waste Management Authority (WCCIWMA) voted to distribute excess reserves to member cities. Richmond’s share is $2,175,798, which should be transferred in the next 30 days, instantly boosting Richmond’s cash reserves by over 20%.
The vote included “yes” votes by Jovanka Beckles, Eduardo Martinez and Tom Butt, all representing Richmond on the WCCIWMA board.
The West Contra Costa Integrated Waste Management Authority (WCCIWMA), also known as "RecycleMore," is a local government agency and a joint powers agency created by the Cities of El Cerrito, Hercules, Pinole, Richmond and San Pablo, and Contra Costa County California charged with making sure the region is in compliance with California State Law "AB 939" which mandates reducing the amount of material going to landfill by 50% by the year 2000.
