Our 2015 Summer Concert Series
Concludes this Friday, 9/25, with
Soji & The Afrobeats and SOL!

So long, summer, we're sorry to see you go! Our 2015 season concludes this Friday, September 25th with Soji & The Afrobeats (Nigerian) and SOL (Latin) performing from 5:30 pm to 7:45 pm. In addition to great free music, the evening will feature prize drawings, face-painting for children and dancing in the street. Local restaurants offer a wide variety of cuisines, and concert-goers can pair fine food with a beverage from Point Richmond Music’s no host bar (proceeds directly supporting the music series). PRM’s outdoor concert venue is located at the corner of Park Place and Washington Avenue in historic downtown Point Richmond.

Friday, September 25, 5:30 - 6:30 PM
Soji & The Afrobeats (Nigerian)

www.sojisoundz.com
Nigeria’s legendary guitar master and singer Soji Odukogbe was the lead guitarist for the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s groundbreaking Afrobeat band. Odukogbe draws on an extensive background in Nigerian Afrobeat, highlife, and spiritual music, bringing a unique sensibility to his highlife guitar interpretations. His Afrobeat Band features guitars, drums, and horns. He and the band set the dance floor afire with a churning, polyrhythmic style that he simply calls “authentic original Afrobeat like Fela’s type of music, the traditional Afrobeat that nobody does” in a world of endless Afro-fusions.

6:45 - 7:45 PM –

SOL (Latin)
www.solrocks.com
SOL's infectious Latin beat warms the souls of all audiences and gets people dancing to the rhythms of Salsa and Funk and Soul. Led by the versatile vocalist Myrna Farias, SOL covers popular songs from Santana to Celia Cruz and Tito Puente to Tower of Power. The high energy band is driven by a hard rocking rhythm section, Latin percussionists, and four horn players. Based in San Francisco, The SOL musicians bring a diverse blend of influences from Latin, Rock and Jazz to create their own unique mix of Latin music for the 21st century.

About Point Richmond Music:
Point Richmond Music (PRM) provides free outdoor summer concerts as a way to build community through the unifying language of music. The all-volunteer committee celebrates diversity and promotes the arts. PRM concerts provide a gathering place for people of all ages, ethnicities, and walks of life by featuring musical talent from Richmond, the Bay Area and beyond. PRM exists thanks to the support of local businesses and the volunteers who make it happen.

In addition to producing its free summer concert series, the group is proud to help support year-round music in Point Richmond through its sponsorship of the Point Richmond Acoustic series and the Point Richmond Jazz series, which run October through May at the First United Methodist Church, and to foster the development of the next generation of musicians through contributions to Washington Elementary School’s music program. Fourteen years of this collaborative effort have been made possible through donations of time and money from local businesses and volunteers.
