The City of Richmond is a member of MCE, and I represent Richmond on the board of MCE.
Unless you have opted out, as a Richmond rate payer you are a customer of MCE. Richmond electricity ratepayers who are customers of MCE saved over $2 million in 2014.
MCE has achieved Governor Brown’s 2030 Energy Goals 15 years early!
MCE 2014 Accomplishments
- Decisive Legislative Victory - With our supporters and allies, we successfully fought back the existential threat to Community Choice represented by AB2145, legislation that would have made it nearly impossible for new CCAs to form and would have strictly limited the ability of new communities to join existing agencies like MCE.
- Lower Rates - MCE customers saved more than $5.9 million in energy bills and expect even greater savings in 2015!
- Energy Savings – In 2014 MCE’s Energy Efficiency programs enabled participating residents and businesses to collectively save almost 600,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity, reduce electrical demand by 23 kilowatts, and lower natural gas usage by 204 therms – the equivalent of:
- C02 emissions from 56.7 homes’ electricity use for one year
- Annual greenhouse gas emissions from 86.9 passenger vehicles
- Carbon sequestered by 338.9 acres of U.S. forests in one year
- Four New Member Communities – Unincorporated Napa County and the Cities of San Pablo, Benicia, and El Cerrito sought membership with MCE. All four will begin receiving MCE service in the first half of 2015.
- Local Sol –MCE announced its 100% Local Solar option, Local Sol. When Local Sol launches in the spring of 2015, up to 200 charter customers will be able to purchase energy sourced from a brand new solar farm currently being developed in Novato.
- Awards –MCE received The Association of Bay Area Governments’ Preserving and Protecting the Environment Award and Breath California’s 204 Clean Air Award for greenhouse gas reductions.
- Local Solar Development – 9 new solar projects in MCE’s service area will be built through our Feed-In Tariff program and local renewable development fund. Half of the revenue from the Deep Green premium is directed to this fund – so it is our customers’ commitment to renewable energy that will make it possible to build MCE-owned, locally sourced power in the years to come.
