Point Richmond Acoustic presents Grammy-nominated Folk/Rock/Blues icon Peter Case in concert Friday, December 12 with special guests Claudia Russell and Bruce Kaplan

(Point Richmond, CA, November 24, 2014)-- Grammy-nominated folk/rock/blues icon Peter Case makes a return performance to the intimate Point Richmond Acoustic concert series on Friday, December 12, 7:30 PM. Claudia Russell and Bruce Kaplan open the show. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door, available at www.pointacoustic.org. Concerts are held at the First Methodist Church, 201 Martina Avenue in Point Richmond.

Peter Case is a true master of the singer-songwriter form. His shows display a high-energy performance style, as well as his deep book of songs drawn from more than twelve CDs and four decades playing all over the world. Case’s work sets the bar for authenticity, passion and imagination. Raised in Buffalo, NY, Case came to the Bay area in 1973, working as a street musician and playing in the seminal power pop group The Nerves, before moving to Los Angeles to form the Plimsouls, landing a deal with Geffen Records.

The Plimsouls achieved success with the single, “Million Miles Away,” but broke up shortly after. Case’s 1986 solo Geffen record revealed deep roots in folk and blues, and earned him his first Grammy nomination for the song “Old Blue Car” as well as the number one spot on the NY Time’s 1986 Best CDs list. Six CDs later, Case earned another nomination for Let Us Now Praise Sleepy John, a remarkable collection of songs that features Case’s voice and a single guitar.

In 2013, after more than three decades living in Los Angeles, Case and his wife moved back to San Francisco. After a very successful crowd funding campaign, Peter is recording a new batch of songs for his next CD, titled "Highway 62."

Point Richmond’s own Claudia Russell and Bruce Kaplan open the show. Russell’s 2013 CD, All Our Luck Is Changing was produced by Case. American Songwriter magazine called it "a masterpiece." Russell and Kaplan are no strangers to Bay Area stages, and the duo produce the Point Richmond concert series.

Said the East Bay Express, "Claudia Russell is a smoky-voiced thrush able to deliver a cosmopolitan lounge blues or a bluegrass romp with equal aplomb. She’s also a fine guitar picker and songwriter. Her impressive melding of pop, country, folk, bluegrass, swing and classical American songwriting mark Russell as an original talent with an impressively eclectic vision."

The Point Richmond First Methodist Church is an intimate place for music. Says co-producer Kaplan “It’s like seeing a concert from the inside of a guitar.” Built more than 100 years ago, the octagonal shaped sanctuary accentuates the up close and personal nature of the music. The Point Richmond Acoustic Music series is completely non-religious.  “It’s all about the music here.” says Kaplan.

Point Richmond Acoustic is sponsored by Point Richmond Music and hosted by the First Methodist Church. Visit www.pointcacoustic.org for more info or contact Bruce Kaplan at folkunlimited@att.net
