Richmond police report dramatic drop in shootings
August 9, 2014 by Mike Aldax
The number of times police have responded to a shooting in Richmond is reportedly half what it was last year.
From January until July of this year, the Richmond Police Department responded to 678 Shotspotter and 911 calls about a shooting within city limits. During the same period last year, RPD responded to 1,255 calls.
Other good news to share: Violent crime is down 24-percent from last year and property crime is down 22-percent, according to Police Chief Chris Magnus.
Below, RPD provided us with a few charts and also a map of where every shooting has taken place thus far this year.
