Richmond, Calif. ranked third best medium-sized U.S. city supporting working women

Richmond, Calif. is the third best medium-sized U.S. city for women in the workforce, according to financial services information site NerdWallet.
NerdWallet crunched data on 522 cities to determine what it believes are the best places supporting working women. To determine the city rankings, the online company examined the salaries of full-time, year-round women workers, the median rent they pay to live in their city, and how their salaries compare with male workers. A city’s population growth was also factored in to assess long-term employment and growth potential.
Richmond ranked third in the medium-sized city category even though the cost of rent to live here was among the highest on the list. The median earnings for female full-time, year-round workers is $45,863, and women on average earn more than men in Richmond, according to NerdWallet’s results.
“Full-time, year-round women working in Richmond make more than their counterparts, which not many cities can boast,” NerdWallet said, noting that the “biggest employer in Richmond is Chevron” while “other workers find jobs in local government.”
Kent, Wash., topped the medium-sized cities list followed by Lehigh Acres, Fla.
As for the rankings for best large cities, Aurora, Colo. topped the list followed in order by Austin, Tex.; Washington D.C.; Albuquerque, NM; Fresno; and Oakland.
What do you think, Richmond? Do you agree with these rankings?
