A little bit about Los Cenzontles in case you don't know of the organization, which is making a difference in the lives of young people locally. Located in the Dias Plaza in neighboring San Pablo, it offers classes in Mexican music and dance to children from throughout the Bay area, including Richmond. As the website tells you, the organization has just kicked off a capital campaign having finally outgrown its cute and comfy but way too small digs. Literally, six people share an office the size of a shoebox. And when the kids are stomping in dance class, staff has to go out in the parking lot to take calls. Right now they are busy taking over the next-door laundromat to get a bigger office, a teaching kitchen and a sky-lit art studio. The amount of new space is not extravagant, but the difference it will make in the functioning of the organization is extraordinary.
