During the 2012 Election, Corky Booze managed a hit piece on me that he later bragged was successful in making Nat Bates the top vote getter. This was somewhat of a surprise to me at the time because I had been endorsing Corky consistently in his many attempts at getting elected. I was his best supporter; certainly the only City Council member who had consistently supported him.
While I was shocked and disappointed at his betrayal, I was surprised that he did not have the intestinal fortitude to put his name on it. Instead, he found a surrogate, Dwight Adams, to act as treasurer of the “Richmond One Committee Opposing Tom Butt.”
While Corky hid in the shadows, Dwight Adams is potentially in big trouble for violating state and local campaign laws. The City of Richmond has filed a legal complaint against him that could cost him tens of thousands of dollars. The City retained a law firm to investigate the matter, and that investigator recommended that “…a civil court action be filed to remedy the Committee’s violation of R.M.C Section 2.42.075.”
Mr. Adams has not been cooperative and has been given until May 6 to respond or he will be officially served.
