Claudia Russell and the Folk Unlimited Orchestra!

Claudia-Credit-Mindy-PinesAudience members often comment on how we are able to attract world-class talent to our little concert series. And indeed, we are fortunate to present another spectacular show! This Friday, we feature two highly-acclaimed Bay Area singer/songwriters - Point Richmond's own resident folksinger, Claudia Russell, and Monica Pasqual (from the popular group Blame Sally). The concert happens at the beautiful Point Richmond First Methodist Church, located at 201 Martina Avenue in Point Richmond. Doors open at 7:30. Tickets are $15 and $12.50 for students and seniors and can be purchased at the door. More information is available at www.pointacoustic.org.

Claudia Russell is an award-winning singer/songwriter who was named Best Musician in the 2006 East Bay Express Reader’s Poll. She plays a unique and eclectic style of music that features her remarkably expressive voice and signature guitar voicings. Rounding out the band are Bruce Kaplan on guitar and mandolin, Mark Petrella on bass, and Tom Talley - Claudia's long-time friend who has played viola and fiddle for artists such as Leonard Cohen, Willie Nelson and Rod Stewart.

Russell and Kaplan have just finished recording a new CD for a spring release, and will be previewing songs from it. But to many fans, Claudia's live show is where she shines the most:
Sing Out magazine says, “Claudia Russell is a great performer…She can really sing. And her band - let’s just say they’re hot. Connect them to the power grid and they’d light up a medium-sized town.”

Special guest artist Monica Pasqual opens the show. Well-known as a key member of the MonicaPasqualgroup Blame Sally, her 2010 solo album This Cold Desire won Best Concept album from the Independent Music Awards. And Monica is a 6-time Emmy winner! Her piano playing supports a clear sweet voice and songs that paint a picture from the palette of love, life and loss. Monica brings a modern ethereal pop sensibility to the singer/songwriter scene.

If you've been to a show, you know that the Pt. Richmond First Methodist Church is an intimate place for concerts. Built more than 100 years ago, the octagonal shaped sanctuary accentuates the up close and personal nature of the music we present. Pt. Richmond is a small enclave right off 580, ten minutes north of Berkeley and 10 minutes east of San Rafael.

The Point Richmond Acoustic Music series is completely non-religious. There are always snacks, giveaways, and interesting people to talk to at the intermission.

Point Richmond Acoustic is co-sponsored by Point Richmond Music, Folk Unlimited and the First Methodist Church and is all volunteer. Visit www.pointcacoustic.org for more info or contact P.t Richmond Acoustic at folkunlimited@att.net.

Please come on out, and bring a friend!
