The City of Richmond and Contra Costa County won a resounding Superior Court victory in the property tax allocation lawsuit filed by most of cities and special districts in the County (See Cities Consider Suing Contra Costa County Over Chevron Assessment Dispute, January 12, 2011). The lawsuit challenged the Auditor’s decision to allocate reimbursement responsibility for Chevron’s property tax refund to all of the cities and special districts in the County. The challengers’ position was that the City of Richmond should be responsible for virtually all refunds due Chevron.
This is a big win for Richmond.
