I have just confirmed that Building owner Walter Connolly has decided to allow Café Altura in Point Richmond to continue to operate. Connolly had previously given notice that the restaurant’s lease, which had expired, would not be renewed. Among other reasons was an ADA lawsuit over restroom accessibility that was part of a blitz of Point Richmond restaurants by a professional litigant.

A groundswell of supporters for the popular restaurant entreated Connolly to reconsider while looking for alternate locations. Moving the restaurant, however, would have been too time consuming and expensive.

Supporters will be celebrating with a Halloween fundraiser to help the restaurant owner purchase new equipment.
