A campaign finance amendment filed Tuesday by City Council candidate Nat Bates shows that he has received more than $32,000, far more than the $1,420 he listed in his original campaign disclosure statement on Friday.
Campaign disclosure statements filed by the Chevron-funded committee Moving Forward show Bates also benefited from $90,000 on campaign mailings and billboards spent by the committee on his behalf.
The amended disclosure elevates Bates to second in the list of candidates with the most funds raised for the council election, behind Gary Bell. The amendment also shows that Bates spent close to $6,000, mostly in payments for consultant fees and candidate filing fees.
Councilmember Tom Butt, who missed the Friday deadline, also filed a campaign disclosure statement Tuesday with the city showing that he had received more than $23,000 in contributions. Contacted by phone late Friday, Butt said that he was in Arkansas for a high school reunion over the weekend and was not aware of the deadline. His wife, who serves as treasurer of his campaign, was attending the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in San Francisco.
Anthony Green, Eleanor Thompson and Mark Wassberg have not filed with the City Clerk.
