Chevron executives have informed me that Chevron will be filing today an appeal of the Contra Costa County Assessment Appeals Board decision of April 12, 2012 (see Chevron Tax Appeal Findings, April 2, 2012  and Shocking Decision on Chevron Property Tax, April 2, 2012) that resulted in an increased 2007-2009 Chevron property tax liability of $27 million for the Richmond Refinery.

During the Appeals Board Hearing, Chevron had expressed confidence that its tax liability for 2007-2009 years would result in up to a $73 million refund to Chevron.

Chevron says that it is preserving its legal rights but at the same time expressing optimism that a settlement will be reached with the Contra Costa county Assessor that will result in no refunds due from Richmond.
