After Butt v. State of California forced the State of California to provide funding for the bankrupt Richmond Unified School District to complete the school year, the vindictive Wilson administration took revenge by turning the funding into a loan that has burdened the WCCUSD for over 20 years.

The weight of that onerous loan and 20 years of state oversight that went with it has now been lifted The West Contra Costa Unified District will make the final payment on the State of California loans made to the District beginning in 1991.  To commemorate this historic occasion, State Superintendent Tom Torlakson will be at Ford Elementary school on Friday June 1 to accept the check for the final payment.  The ceremony will begin at 10:30 AM in the courtyard in front of the new Ford Elementary School building at 2711 Maricopa Avenue in Richmond.
