Green Corridor, Including Richmond, Made an Innovation Hub
September 28, 2010

The Governor’s Office of Economic Development has announced that the Green Corridor iHub, which was established under the leadership of Richmond Mayor Gayle McLaughlin, has reached the status of official designation as a California Innovation Hub (iHub). Click here for a copy of the letter that acknowledges that the Green Corridor iHub has both signed the memorandum of understanding with the State of California and submitted a signed certificate of certification to the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, as mandated by the guidelines.

The iHub Initiative is designed to spur economic recovery and growth by showcasing and supporting California’s most promising hubs of innovation. The program’s top goal this year is to secure the basic funding mechanisms needed to ensure that a sufficient structure is established and the initiative lasts beyond the current administration. The Governor’s Office of Economic Development is, for example, partnering with the state’s Small Business Development Centers, who have already pledged $1.2 million to the initiative, as well as taking the lead in the submission of numerous applications for grants on behalf of the iHubs through federal agencies actively promoting the new national innovation strategies of the Obama Administration.
