KNOW YOUR ENEMY: Amid all the accusations, distrust and backbiting that have become part of Richmond's dealings with Chevron over a proposed upgrade to the refinery, Councilman Nat Bates shares a tidbit that puts a slightly different slant on the relationship.
"Chevron's new CEO, John Watson, is a Richmond product," Bates said. "His father, Fran Watson, was a Richmond businessman and attorney in the city for years. This kid grew up in Richmond, and I'm quite certain he has some strong feelings about it.
"We should be reaching out to him, sitting down and talking, trying to encourage him to stay. I don't think the mayor even knows about this."
